The Associated Press reports that Northwest High charges students $60 dollars for their cap and gown, and as much as $100 dollars as graduation nears. The difference is used as a fundraiser for their prom.
This appears to be a more efficient way to raise bucks than the Booster Club’s mulch, proceeds of which go towards extracurricular activities.
The graduation gown is not the only graduation expense. Northwest High may be big, but apparently not big enough to hold its own graduation ceremonies. The June 11th ceremony will take place at DAR Constitution Hall in DC.
Students (and a limited number of family members) can purchase $13 dollar tickets for a bus running from the high school to the hall.
