Shiane was buried on Wednesday morning, July 8th.
Diane, her mother, has been discharged from the hospital. She has been charged with reckless driving and failure to secure a child. The accident is still being investigated.
The Montgomery Titans, a local track & field organization, has a very nice tribute to Shiane on their website.

In a Monday morning highway accident, Shiane Dixon of Boyds, Md. was thrown from the family SUV into oncoming traffic. She was struck by a tractor trailer truck and killed. Shiane was 12 years old. She was riding in the cargo (rear) area without a seat belt. (Unless Shiane was in a seat, she may not have had access to a seat belt.)

Driving the vehicle, the mother was wearing a seat belt and lived.

It is with great sadness that I express my condolences for such a wonderful young lady. I pray that the Titans and Shiane’s family gain the strength and comfort they will need to deal with this tremendous loss.

We the Glenarden track club will miss Shiane. Shiane was an honest student and one of my best friends , she was shy but it was kind of funny to me. We are just glad thats she is in a safer place! this is tragedy but its the best for us and mostly God ! Prayers goes out to the family.
